Centro Latino Americano de Ecología Social (CLAES)
CLAES (Centro Latino Americano de Ecología Social) was founded in Montevideo in 1989 and has become a leading Latin American research and advocacy centre for ecological politics, social ecology, and alternative development models. It promotes rights of nature, degrowth, and Buen Vivir as frameworks for post-extractivist futures, producing influential publications through platforms such as ecologiasocial.com and ambiental.net. CLAES engages with indigenous communities, feminist ecology, and critical perspectives on technology and capitalism in the region. The organisation connects academic analysis with grassroots movements and policy debates across Latin America.
