Fundación Pachamama

The Garden The Assemblies

Fundación Pachamama is based in Quito, Ecuador, with over two decades of work supporting Amazonian indigenous communities in the protection of their territories from oil, gas, and mining extraction. The foundation works across four strategic areas: forests and territory, forest economies (bioenterprises and ecotourism), human and nature rights, and the Ikiama Nukuri programme. Its legal team won a landmark 2023 Constitutional Court ruling voiding a decree that would have expanded mining activity in indigenous territories. Fundación Pachamama played a pivotal role in establishing rights of nature in Ecuador's 2008 constitution and continues to apply that legal framework to protect Amazonian watersheds.
