GRAIN
GRAIN is a small international NGO founded in 1990 that works to support small farmers and social movements in their struggles for community-controlled, biodiversity-based food systems. It has long-standing programs in Latin America, co-producing publications and campaigns with grassroots allies in Mexico, Central America, and the Andes. GRAIN monitors corporate land grabs, seed patents, and trade agreements threatening peasant agriculture, and documents threats to native maize, quinoa, and other crops. Its research feeds directly into advocacy at national legislatures and international forums. GRAIN operates without a traditional hierarchical structure, working through a distributed team and strong movement partnerships.
