Instituto Socioambiental (ISA) was founded in 1994 and is one of Brazil's leading organisations at the intersection of social and environmental rights. It operates across four priority territories — Rio Negro, Xingu, broader Amazônia, and Vale do Ribeira — combining satellite monitoring, legal advocacy, and community capacity-building. ISA publishes flagship platforms including the Socioambiental Map and the Indigenous Peoples in Brazil database, reference tools for researchers, journalists, and government. The organisation engages in policy advocacy to demarcate indigenous territories and prosecute illegal miners and loggers, and is a key voice ahead of COP-30 in Belém.
