IPAM Amazônia
Founded in 1995 in Belém, the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (IPAM) is one of Brazil's most significant independent research institutions for Amazonian science and policy. It produces scientific knowledge on deforestation, carbon stocks, fire, and land-use change, and translates that knowledge into policy engagement. IPAM works on three axes: low-carbon farming, protected territory governance, and sustainable family production. It makes the scientific and economic case that Amazon protection is compatible with — and necessary for — sustainable development, directly challenging the political economy of deforestation in Brazil.
