Mana Moana
Mana Moana is a Pacific-led environmental justice initiative that weaves together Indigenous ecological knowledge, ocean stewardship, and community-led governance across Aotearoa New Zealand and the wider Pacific. The network works to protect ocean environments and marine biodiversity through community protocols rooted in Pacific cultural values, connecting tikanga Māori, Pasifika customs, and contemporary environmental law. Mana Moana facilitates intergenerational knowledge transfer around ocean health and sustainable fishing, and advocates for Pacific community rights in marine spatial planning and blue economy governance processes. The initiative bridges Pacific diasporic communities in Aotearoa with island communities across Polynesia and Melanesia.
