Te Ipukarea Society

The Garden

Te Ipukarea Society (TIS) is the Cook Islands' primary environmental organisation, founded to promote sustainable development and the conservation of the country's unique biodiversity. The society focuses on terrestrial and marine conservation, invasive species management, seabird protection, and community-based natural resource management. TIS works closely with communities on the outer islands to implement biodiversity conservation and climate resilience projects. The organisation has been a key voice in establishing marine protected areas in the Cook Islands and represents Pacific civil society at international biodiversity and climate forums. Its name means 'The Homeland Society', reflecting deep cultural ties to place and ocean.
